BTS returns with ARIRANG album as the group’s new chapter begins and global anticipation rises

SEOUL — K-pop superstars BTS is making a comeback as a full group for the first time in 3 years and 9 months. BTS will release their fifth full-length album ARIRANG on March 20. This is the first time BTS is releasing a new song as a complete group since “Take Two,” a fan song released in June 2023.

The album title ARIRANG has sparked strong excitement from global fans. The new album, which contains 14 songs, takes its title from “Arirang,” one of Korea’s representative folk songs. ARIRANG is a title that encompasses BTS’s identity and the emotions they want to share with their fans. Ahead of their long-awaited comeback, the group naturally focused on the team’s roots, starting point, and inner stories. According to their agency, BigHit Music, they wanted to infuse their music with their identity as a group that originated in Korea and with deep feelings of longing and profound love.
With the new album, BTS will begin a world tour and meet their global ARMY. The tour title is the same as the album, ARIRANG, and will start with a performance at Goyang Sports Complex on April 9, continuing across 34 cities with a total of 82 shows worldwide. This is the largest number of shows in K-pop history. According to Reuters, President Sheinbaum said at a press conference in Mexico City on the 26th (local time), “I wrote a letter to the President of Korea requesting additional BTS concerts,” and “I hope a positive answer will come,” suggesting there is still potential for the tour to expand further.
In fact, this tour is already generating immediate effects on tourism and the broader economy in various regions. According to global accommodation platform Hotels.com, in the 48 hours after BTS’s tour announcement on January 14, travel searches from overseas to Seoul increased by 155% compared with the previous week. Searches for Busan, where June concerts will be held, surged by 2,375%, and in major Asian regions such as Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, Busan travel searches increased by thousands of percent. Travel searches by Koreans for Seoul (190%) and Busan (3,855%) also increased significantly.
